This bushcraft course leads you beyond basic bushcraft skills and introduces a deeper connection to the natural world. At the end of this bushcraft course you will return home with a hand made sling, your own primitive trap, snare and fishing hook that you made. You will also have access to materials to make your para cord bracelet.
Orienteering training will be an introduction to map reading including terrain association, use of the lensatic and silva type compass, and if weather permits there is a land navigation course. Students will also learn about aidless navigation and what to do if you have to move without map and compass.
You will learn a variety of traditional skills and techniques needed to develop your awareness and ability to connect with the natural world. Games and exercises will focus on enhancing your hearing, touch and balance while walking in the woods blindfolded.
During this course you will get hands on training with:
- Primitive hunting with the sling and rabbit stick
- Tactical archery
- Primitive Traps and Snares
- Fire by friction demonstration
- Advanced long term shelter options
- Advanced primitive fishing techniques
- Map reading and compass use
- Advanced animal tracking
- Food harvesting preservation and storing. This includes both meat and vegetables.
- Bushcraft cooking techniques.
The Advanced Bushcraft course is designed to be an in depth study of the natural skills needed to not only survive but to even thrive in the woods.
PREQUISITE: Basic Bushcraft course
The course is mainly conducted outdoors near Cahersiveen in County Kerry. For the part of this class you will be outside and active.
