This two day bushcraft course is offered over a weekend. During the sixteen hours of training, there will be an introduction to the four basic principles of survival: shelter, water, food, and fire.

Shelter. Without the ability to keep warm, our chances of surviving comfortably in a cold and wet night out is greatly diminished. Basic shelter principles are discussed culminating in building as a group a debris hut. Students will learn how to make shelters using: bashas, tarps, rubbish bags, tree limbs and animal dens.
Water. Humans can survival about three days without water. Luckily, here in Ireland, we have it easy. But water procurement training will introduce dew collection, solar stills, mechanical options and plant identification for obtaining our much needed refreshments.
Food. My personal favourite subject. We will discuss food procurement with introduction to primitive trapping, rabbit stick throwing, and tracking and plant identification. Students will enjoy tasting wild edibles available locally. Additionally, students will be given the opportunity to gut, clean and cook their own freshly caught fish.
Fire. During this course you will learn different fire structures for various environments. The ability to start a fire within a five minute time frame will be encouraged. Introduction to making fire will include: magnesium sticks, Swedish fire starters, and other field expedient options.
During this course you will be given:
-a Swedish Scout Firesteel fire starter
-a Frost Knife
-a survival tin with some components to make your own survival kit
All three of these items are yours to keep.
This course offers a balanced approach to learning the survival skills. The instructors at IPNA will use whatever techniques and skills that work in the real world. They draw on their backgrounds in the military, civilian and Native American training.
There is no room at IPNA for hype, self endangerment, or ego based bushcraft.
The course is mainly conducted outdoors near Cahersiveen in County Kerry. For the part of this class you will be outside and active.
Cost: €150
Food is not provided. Tent sites and primitive shelters are available
