This course offers the chance to play with your inner child. You will learn how to make various primitive weapons and tools that the ancient Celts, Tuatha Dé Danann and the Fir Bolg would have used. This is a hands on course. The instructors will explain and demonstrate each tool and weapon system but there will be plenty of workshop time to design, create, and practice. Students will be provided with all of the materials to make a sling, cross throwing stick, atlatl, bola, two different types of spears and bone tools. Students will also be taught how to make bone saws, bone scrapers, and bone cutting tools.
A local instructor of self defence will be joining us to instruct in techniques applicable to the tools created. During the weekend students will have full access to the recently expanded archery and distance weaponry range to practice with their newly made toys. Archery equipment will be provided since there will not be enough time to make our own bows and arrows. If students have their own archery sets they are welcome to bring them to the course.
At the end of the weekend the first IPNA Primitive Weapons Competition will commense. Students will compete using the tools that they have made. The archery component will utilize IPNA archery equipment. The winner will go home with a €50 voucher for future IPNA courses. The first runner up will win a €25 voucher.
