Located in Killarney National Park in County Kerry, Ireland
For these series of courses the Ranger Scout has been divided into three separate weekends. Students must complete all three of these courses to be considered a Ranger Scout Graduate.
The Ranger Scout Weekend is separated into the following weekends:
1. Basic Ranger Scout Weekend. This programme will introduce Ranger Movement, Stalking, Camouflage, Basic Archer, and skills that enhance personal awareness, understanding bird language, basic self defence techniques, meditations in nature, survival weapons, and advanced bushcraft skills.
2. Advanced Ranger Scout Weekend. This programme will focus on Ranger Campcraft, Tactical Tracking, Counter Tracking, Dynamic Archer, and skills that continue to enhance personal awareness. Students will spend more time blindfolded than in the Basic course.
3. Ranger Challenge. For this course the students will be moved out into the local forestry on Friday night. They will be broken down into Ranger Teams and spend the entire weekend in a tactical environment where they will be challenged to use and enhance their Ranger skills learned in prior classes. Additional skills will be introduced.
In between courses students will be encouraged to spend a lot of 'dirt time' out in the woods close to their home area practicing the skills learned before returning for further education. Instructors will be available through email support for questions between the courses. Additionally, Ranger candidates will be given Kamana One home study programme to complete before they can attend the Ranger Gathering.
Ranger Scout Graduates are allowed to apply to attend the Ranger Gathering held each spring and fall somewhere in Ireland. This is a weekend spent with other Rangers practising their skills and challenging other Ranger Teams in awareness and stalking games. There is no charge for the Ranger Gathering weekend.
The Basic and Advanced Ranger runs from 9am Friday morning until 6pm Monday evening.
The Ranger Challenge runs from 6pm Friday night until 5pm on Sunday.
The course is mainly conducted outdoors in various locations in County Kerry. For the majority of this class you will be outside and active.
