The Remote Medic Course (RMC) is an advanced medical curriculum that will assist the graduate with providing long term sustainable medicine. It is designed for a remote and austere environment where definitive hospital care is extended travel time or totally unreachable. This could be found in third world locations, military engagements, and natural disasters.
The RMC is a ten month/ 23 day course that starts with the accelerated Wilderness First Responder and then moves on to one weekend per month classes. Home study is combined with hands on learning. During the weekend workshops students will be taught medical subjects that will include: wilderness pathology, long term survival medicine, low tech laboratory, wildcrafting and preparing herbal medicines (including antibiotics), advanced patient assessment, advanced orthopedic injury management, long term patient management, advanced wound treatment and long term care, acupressure treatment for common ailments, and additional long term medical topics.
This course is a great introduction to providing long term medical care in austere environments. It provides fundamental medical knowledge as well as advanced clinical skills. Students wishing to further thier medical education will be encouraged to continue on to the Remote Medic Practitioner (RMP) programme offered through the Australasian Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
Cost: around €1500
This course is currently still under construction. We have the option to offer this course in the Dublin area if most of the students are coming from the East Coast or flying in from the EU.
We can host this here at the IPNA campus while using the local education centre for a warm classroom during the intense colder months.
Food is not included.
Snacks, tea and coffee will always be available.
Tent sites are available for the duration of the course.
